Why does an identical description sometimes produce what you asked for and sometimes produce something else entirely?

The short answer turned out to be a single letter.

The Test

The prompt asked for a man standing to the right of the subject, performing a specific act. Nothing exotic by the standards of this category. Seven runs against one test image.

Five came back correct. One came back as a kiss, which nobody had asked for. One had the man’s face and his cock overlapping in a way that made no anatomical sense.

Then we read our own prompt properly. Somewhere in the middle of it, `cock` had been typed as `cook`. One letter, sitting in the exact clause that described what was happening.

With that word fixed, the same prompt went through seventeen more runs. Sixteen came back correct. One didn’t.

Same image, same tool, same settings, same hardware. 29% failure with the typo, 6% without it.

Seventeen runs won’t support a research paper, and we’d rather say so than dress the numbers up. The direction is clear enough to act on.

Why one letter does that much damage

`Cook` isn’t gibberish. It’s a real English word with a clear meaning, and it landed exactly where the model was supposed to learn what was going into her mouth. Nothing threw an error. The model did what these models always do when a key word points somewhere confusing, which is fall back to the most ordinary reading available. A man’s face near a woman’s mouth, with no clearer instruction, becomes a kiss.

That’s why the failures were so consistent. They weren’t random garbage. They were the model quietly picking the safest interpretation of a sentence we’d broken for it.

Spellcheck won’t catch this either. Every word in the prompt was a valid English word.

The part nobody likes hearing

Even with the corrected prompt, one run in seventeen still came back wrong. Generation isn’t deterministic. Same input, different seed, different output. Most tools, ours included, only refund a generation when the job itself errors out, not when you dislike the result.

At 10 credits per image edit, a 6% miss rate is background noise. At 29% you’re paying for one wasted image in every three or four, and the pattern is almost impossible to spot from the inside. You just think the tool is bad.

What actually moved the numbers

Three things, in the order they mattered.

**Check the spelling of the words carrying the action.** Not the whole prompt. Just the nouns and verbs doing the work, because those are what the model leans on hardest.

**Write in one language.** Prompts that mix two languages give inconsistent results. If you’re writing in English, write all of it in English.

**Say where the camera is and what should stay the same.** Our best-performing internal prompts name the shot (top-down, POV, side view) and then explicitly say to keep the subject’s face, hair and clothing identical to the source photo. A vague prompt leaves the model free to reinvent things you wanted untouched. Run in that longer format, the same request came back correct and better framed than the short version.

None of this is exotic. It’s closer to writing instructions for a stranger who takes everything literally and has no idea what you meant.

Where face swapping is different

Worth separating the two, because people use them interchangeably and then wonder why the results differ.

Editing a photo with a text prompt is one job. You supply one image and a description, and the model changes what you asked it to change. An NSFW AI image editor is doing that, and everything above applies.

Swapping a face is a different job with different inputs. You supply two photos, one for the body and scene, one for the face, and there’s no prompt for the model to misread. Different failure modes, different fixes. If that’s what you’re after, AI face swap handles it, at the same 10 credits per run.

Knowing which one you’re in matters for a simple reason. Prompt problems get fixed by rewriting the prompt. Face swap problems usually come down to the source photo, and no amount of rewriting will help.

What we changed on our side

Two things came out of this beyond the writing advice.

We’re building prompt correction into the tool, so a typo in a load-bearing word gets caught before it costs anyone credits. And we stopped assuming that a run which comes back wrong means the request was too complex for the model. It was our first guess here, and it was wrong. The model handled the request fine once it could read it.

If your results have been inconsistent lately, read your own prompt out loud before you blame the tool. That’s what finally worked for us.

We spent an afternoon running the same prompt twenty-four times against the same photo, trying to answer one question.
